RICCARTON WORK MANY SPRINTING TASKS POLYDORA AT THE FENCES [by telegraph —own connkstondent] CHRISTC.HURCH, Friday As no grass track was available at Riccarton yesterday, all horses to race at Amberley to-morrow were given fast work to-day, most of the tasks being half-mile sprints along the back, where the going was considered to bo better. The best gallop was credited to The Wrecker and Lady Leigh, who recorded 51s, while Financiere and Scufllo finished in front of Improvident in 51 2-ss. Gay Parade and Gay Lyric followed in 51 l-ss, Grampian and Sir Hugh recording 525. Others run over this distance included Linguist, 525, Night Hawk and Gold Trek, 53 l-ss, Great Bramble, 545, Rabble and Happy Night, 54 2-ss, and Glenogil, 55 l-ss. Courtyard and Rangemoro ran five furlongs comfortably in 1.6 2-5. Willie Win and Steulmarch did strong \vork over tho same distance in 1.8. Davolo, assisted by Flame Queen and Golden Chest, covered six furlongs in 1.19 3-5. Drink lip finished well in front of Bright Prospect after taking 1.23. . Gillie and Settlement strode over a mile in 1.49. Palmyra and Owlsgleam sprinted three furlongs in 40s. The latter has been taken over again by her owner, Mr. W. A.' Sy'ine, and is now in D. O'Connor's stable.

Polydora Was sent out to do her first schooling of the year over tho big fences, but an otherwise dashing display was spoiled -by her slipping into the first, and second fences, stopping her at each. She got over both on tho second attempt and jumped the next three well. She would probably have done better in company, or with more pace, on nearing the" fences. Flashlight jumped five-of the steeplechase fences very well. There is no doubt about his ability to jump country and he will he a decided acquisition to the southern steeplechasers during the winter. The Grasper gave a mixed display over four hurdles. Surcoat again created a good impression in some schooling over the pony hurdles.
