RIVAL CLAIMS
TASMAN AIR TERMINAL AUCKLAND AND WELLINGTON SOUTHERN CITY'S ANXIETY [ny TEI-EGBAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT ] WELLINGTON, Wednesday In the past Auckland, like a spoilt child, harl been allowed to have all she desired, but to-day it was quite different, said Mr. A. 11. Hislop, at a meeting of the council of the Chamber of Commerce. Wellington and the South#| Island had no longer any diffidence in standing up for their rights, and Wellington would continue to press strenuously its legitimate claims as an obviously advantageous geographical base for the transtasman air service. Mr. Hislop was replying to comment by the Hon* T. Woodworth, M.L.C., of Auckland, on the statements of a deputation tvhich waited on the Minister of Marino, the Hon. P. leaser, advocating Wellington's advantages as a terminal. "Although Ave should put forward our claims as persistently as possible, I do not think it is altogether wiso to blackguard the other fellow," said Captain S. Holm. "That is the mistake that Auckland makes. If they confined themselves to their claims instead of blaming us, thev would be more dignified." "I agree that no good purpose can be served by examining the merits or otherwise of Auckland," said the president, Mr. P. E.-Patrick. "We should content ourselves with the submission that we in Wellington-haVe the goods and should insist that the fact is recognised by the?-authorities." A motion bv Mr. Hislop, that the chamber, in conjunction with the City Council and Harbour Board, should continue l to press Wellington's claims as a transtasman base, was carried.
