BATAVIA—SYDNEY DUTCH SERVICE TWICE-WEEKLY TEIPS COMMENCING JULY 3 By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received May 1, 5.5 p.m.) AMSTERDAM, April 80 It is officially announced that Royal Netherlands Indies Airways will start a twice-weekly, iiir service between Batavia and Sydney on the afternoon of July 3. The Lockheed aeroplane making the initial journey will arrive in Sydney on the afternoon of July 5 and leave next day on the return flight to Batavia. Granting of permission by the Australian Government for the Roval Netherlands Indies Airways, K.&.1.L.M., to conduct an air service between Batavia and Brisbnne was announced . earlier this year. It was stated at that time that the routo would be from Batavia by way of Soerahaya, Rambang, Koepang and Darwin *to Brisbane, and that it was hoped shortly to extend the service to Sydney. The new service will oiler extremely swift transport from Europe to Australia. On the new section of the route the company will tise a fleet of Lockheed H l4" monoplanes, which have a cruising speed of 224 miles an hour, and are among the fastest transports in the world. The machines are in tnany respects similar to tho Lockheeds in daily use on the Auckland-Welling-ton service. •
