DAIRYING INDUSTRY
AUSTRALIAN CONDITIONS FACTORY MANAGER'S VISIT . [BT TELF.GP.VrH PRESS ASSOCIATION'] "WELLINGTON, Tuesday. A trip through the dairying districts of New Zealand "to keep up-to-date with dairying conditions because NewZealand is recognised to be further ahead in this respect" is being under- " taken by Mr. L. M. Beiitley, manager of the South West Cooperative Dairy Farmers' Company, Bnnbury. Western Australia, who arrived at Wellington ' by the Awatea to-day from Sydney. Mr. Bcntlcy's company controls a chain of dairy factories in Western Australia, where dairying is in its infancy. He said that tho annual output of dairy produce for the whole State was not more than 8000 tons? It was increasing rapidly, however. Because of the low capital cost of land, dairying in Western Australia differed greatly from the industry in New Zealand, added Mr. Bentley. This was because of the very high production period, starting in July, working to si peak in November, and dropping very suddenly in January and February. Already a number of weirs had been constructed across rivers to irrigate estuarial land, and it was hoped thereby to increase summer production greatly.
