FLYING RECORD BROADBENT'S PROGRESS ON WAY TO-ATHENS STILL SLIGHTLY BEHIND By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright (Received April 21, 9.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 21 The Australian airman, Mr. H. F. Broadbent, arrived at Basra, Irak, at 5.40 a.m. to-day, Greenwich time, and left again at 6.50 a.m. for Athens, Greece, in continuation of his attempt to break the solo flight record from Australia to England. At Basra he was about l"*hour 45 minutes behind the time registered for the distance by Miss Jean Batten, whoso record he is attempting to break. Mr. Broadbent left Allahabad, India, at 4.40 yesterday morning and landed later at Jodhpur. Taking off again, he flew over Karachi at 6.30 p.m., en route to Basra. Mr. Broadbent's position, relative to that of Miss Batten at similar stages of the flight, is little changed from yesterday, when he was about 1 hour 30 minutes behind the Auckland flier's time. Miss Batten flew from Darwin to London in 5 days 18 hours. Her time to Basra was 3 days *9 hours 50 minutes. That of Mr. Broadbent was 3 days 11 hours 33 minutes.
