AUSTRALIAN YEARLINGS MELFORT COLTS SELL WELL THE BUZZARD STOCK IN DEMAND TWO AUCKLAND • PURCHASES (Received April 21, 6.35 p.m.) ■' SYDNEY, April 21 At the yearling sales to-day, Mr. F. Dalton paid 2800 guineas for the Melfort colt from the Tressady mare, Lalaguli. Mr. A. G. Papworth paid 1000 guineas for another Melfort colt, and the seven offerings by this sire realised 6300 guineas. Six Chatham -colts made up to 650 guineas and aggregated 2335 guineas. Wright, Stephenson and Company, Limited, New Zealand, secured the Chatharn-Gunhild colt for 120 guineas. Colts by Winooka fetched up to 225 guineas, but Tho Buzzard stock went to 850 guineas. si;: 1 < . Mr. W. Hi. Gaisford (Hawke's Bay) secured a colt by The Buzzard .for 650 guineas and Mr. H. Bayly, Wanganui, another The Buzzard colt ,for 325 guineas. The former buyer also paid 750 guineas for a colt by* Constant Son. Mr. M. J. Moodabe, Auckland, went to 450 guineas to secure another colt by Constant Son, whose stock ranged in price from 220 to 800 guineas. Mr. A. D. Potter, Auckland, bought a Dark Fox colt for 70 guineas. The Elderslie Stud, Ltd., New Zealand, submitted a bay colt by Iliad which was bought by the Victorian, Mr. T. Lewis, for 325gns, A chestnut Night Raid colt was bought by # Mr. J. T. Jamieson for 500gns.

PALMERSTON NORTH, Thursday Rain had left the Awapuni tracks very heavy for work this morning. On the course proper, where the flags were out 45ft., several Waverley and Woodville candidates worked well. Porotiti (Chaplin) pleased by finishing comfortably on the outside of Fair Day (Tattersall) with Entheos (Howe) five lengths back, at the end of seven furlongs run in 1.38, the first half-mile in 56 4-os. Porotiti, who is. to have his first race over hurdles at Waverley on Saturday, finished well. Wildflower worked nicely over six furlongs in 1.24 2-5, the first in 575. She looks none the worse for her two hard races at Auckland and is in good shape to contest the Patea County Cup. ' , . . Dainty Sue (Chaplin) demonstrate improvement by finishing solidly from behind after conceding Sporting Gift (Anderson) and Aero Lad (Tattersall) three lengths start. She beat them home by a> length in 54 2-ss, which was good time under the track conditions. Royal Limond worked over a mile in 1.56. He continues to make progress. The Laughing Prince ; fillies from Bellina and Sigma respectively ran an easy three furlongs s together,. while Great Legion came home the last three of five furlongs in 40 3-ss. He has sharpened up with his race at Feilding.
Puroto, sent seven furlongs, was under restraint throughout and the last Bix occupied 1.21 1-5. :. Sporting Luck (Breuer)jhit out well over .half a mile. Merryman, under a good hold, ran five furlongs in 1.11, the last two in 27 4-53. Selkirk easily Jield the Pythia colt over half a. mile, the last quarter being run in 27 3-ss. Brazil recorded 27 l-5s for the last two of throe. He is to race at Woodville. v Riotous and Forest Glow appear all the better for their races at Auckland and the latter seems to be well placed at Waverley. . , The Hunting Song two-year-old. Prediction, who has been spelling since the Wellington summer meeting, resumed work this morning. He should be well attuned for a race like the Trial Plate at Trenthan\ in July. . :.v. i <!,' v * Oratory, Laughing Lass and Ecstatic, who all showed their inability to handl« bad going at Feilding, have -tjeen let down and went" out for their winter spells to-day. Oratory won two races, including tho, Thompson Handicap; Laughing Lass had five wins and the two-year-old Ecstatic had three starts for a second and two thirds. Copycat and Rarotonga have, been turned out for the winter also. Rarotonga ran in good style at Tauheifrnikau in his third win of tho season and he is a promising Derby colt.
