TAKANINI HORSES
MIDDLE GRASS TRIALS ANION DEFEATS ARVAKUR LADY MARIE FILLY ARRIVES The middle grass, with the poles out 15ft., was in. use at Takanini yesterday, when tho going was dead after rain. Hound Up (G. Smith) exercised 1 under a good hold and Hot Box did *'■ slow work. Anion (Inglis) and Arvakur (Bartle) ran four furlongs from the seven to the three in 52 l-ss, Anion finishing about four lengths to the good, i Siega (G. Smith), doing her hest, finished in front of Vaalstar (Collett) and V alamito at the end of four furlongs in 52 3-ss, the first furlong in 13 2-ss. Siega went in improved style, while her companions were not fully extended. ■Kajanya (A. Tinker) was not asked to do his best while finishing his work with three furlongs in 44 l-os. Brazilian (Vaughan) and Pleuron (Burgess) could have dono bettor than 47 3-5s for three furlongs. Brazilian was anxious to increase the pace. Silver Glow (G. Smith) could not have done any better than run /Vr' r furlongs in 53 3-ss. Milanion (Vuughan) stayed with him, and they ran the last threo in 40s. Best Five by Palustre Asset and Wykemist took 1.9 3-5 to cover live furlongs. Palustre ran the best five furlongs of the morning in 1.5. Ivy Will onyx was too good in the going for Parquet and Inquisitor over five furlongs in 1.7 l-ss. At tliis time of the year it in the rule to spell horses who have had ii strenuous summer season and bring in their places horses of unknown ability. Several changes have taken place in .Takanini stables. A. Tinker has received the Foxbridge —Lady Marie yearling filly, which was purchased by agents' at the national yearling sales. The filly is a half-sister to the successful Gay Sheila, Gay Blonde and Gay Sheik, all of whom successfully carried Mr. G. Courtney's colours.' If conformation and breedingare required for success the filly appears assured of a successful career. The unlucky High Sea lias added further to his troubles by ricking himself and he was pn absentee at Takanini yesterday. He has shown promise of making a useful middle-distance horso. The two-year-old' Hunting Song colt Nordic Song has been sent to his owndr's property to be spelled. When next put into training it will be as a gelding. Inver, who does not act well in the heavy going, has been turned out and will come in again in time for next season's racing. Grateful More Solid Grateful, who has raced consistently lately, has returned from Feilding and looks really well after his trip. In the past he has lightened up a good deal after racing, but now he seems to have become more solid. W. Townsend has two additions to his stable, a yearling full-sister to Itoyevrus, and a half-sister, by Yaals, to Hot Box. Royevrus, who has shown good galloping ability, is to be spelled and will not be produced until the spring. F. Smith has leased from Mr. A. Swney a three-year-old by The Ace from Volimond. Takanini-tramed horses did well at the Ellerslie Autumn Meeting, particularly so on Easter Monday. On Saturday Arvakur and Pocket Venus filled places, while on Monday Takanini representatives won four events—lvy Wiljonyx in the Wilson Handicap, Valimeen in the Victoria Handicap, Mia Acrea in tho St. Heliers Hurdles, these heing the first three races op tho card, • and Valamito in the Islington Han- J dicap. "Royevrus and Pocket Venus ( filled the places in the Victoria Handi- . onp, and Goklon Srmhi occupied second place in the St. Heliers Hurdles. The stakes won were £1390. (
