SENIOE CHAMPIONSHIP . . j THIRD SERIES OF MATCHES ■ ■ <i MARIST TO MEET MANUKAU The third series of matches in the senior championship of the Auckland Rugby League will be played at Carlaw Park to-morrow, and a high standard is again anticipated. The principal attraction is between Manukau and Marist, and a great game should result. Marist showed fine form in beating North Shore in the opening scries. It had the bye last week and should be fully extended against Manukau. The latter has been strengthened by the re-appearanco of Hcmi and the inclusion of Panapa, former North Auckland Rugby halfback. Although beaten by Newton in the opening game Manukau showed decided improvement last Saturday and will bo a hard team to defeat. The curtain-raiser will bo provided by Mount Albert, so far unbeaten, and North Shore. The latter is improving under the tuition of J. R. Banhain, the player-coach, and should put up strong opposition. The chief match on the No. 'J ground will bo contested by Newton and Richmond. This should provide fast football, with prospects in favour of Richmond, an improving combination. City and Ponsonby will contest the curtain-raiser and the latter is likely to take the points. Senior reserve grade matches will be continued to-morrow. Following are the teams:— CITY Senior Grade. —Hughes, Roberts, Rata, Ryan, Wyberg, Welch, Hutchinson, MacpherKo'n, Wohner, McCarthy, McLaughlin, Thompson, G. McCarthy, Donovan, Callaghan, Kindly, Maher. _ Senior Keservo Grade.-—0 Connor, Stock, Gallagher, Rogers, Tatana, Edwards, Besham, McNeil, Martin, Denehy, McCarthy, Strange, Donovan, Callaghan. Ivlndly, Maher, Duggan, Jamieson, Lacey. NEW ZEALAND TEAM TOUR OF AUSTRALIA The tour of a New Zealand team to Australia was further discussed at last evening's meeting of the New Zealand Rugby League Council. A proposed itinerary was received from the Now South Wales Rugby Loaguo and signed by Mr. H R. Miller, who is also secretary to the Australian Board of Control. The acting-chairman, Mr. *E. Stallworthy, said that, unfortunately, in spite of several letters and cablegrams, the Board of Control had not .vet given even initial consideration to the tour details. Mr. W. O. Carlaw pointed out that the members of the council were divided as to whether a country match should bo played prior to the opening game in Sydney on June 21. Sevcrnl cf the matches as suggested by the New South Wales League, clashed with the itinerary of the All Blacks Rugby tour, and at present there was no need to consider seriously the New South Wales itinerary, although the Board of Control may be guided to some extent. ! Mr. W. J. Davidson expressed the opinion <!hat no itinerary should bo approved unless a match bo played in a country centre. Ho said that it would be to the team's advantage to show its form prior to playing in Sydney and not stay there for a week in training. Mr. N. A. Kyle suggesied that, before details were confirmed, every effort should bo made to play at least two country games in New South Wales. The matter was eventually deferred on the suggestion of Mr. Stallworthy. Ho said the secretary would keep in touch with the Australian Board of Control as to tho wishes of New Zealand.
