SCUFFLE ON TRAIN
MAORI'S SUICIDE ATTEMPT [BY TELKGIIAPH —OWN* CORRESPONDENT] ROTORUA, Thursday An exciting episode on the Frankton Junction-Rotorua train on March 26, when a young Maori, after having si scuffle with a passenger, locked himself in a convenience and smashed a window, threatening to jump out of the moving train, had its sequel in the Rotorua Police Court this" afternoon. Whitinui Toru, of Paengaroa. was charged with creating a disturbance in tho train and with smashing a window valued at 12s 6d. Tho police said accused had become rowdy as a result of too much drink, and had a scuffle with a male passenger. When the assistance of the guard was sought, accused locked himself in a convenience and threatened to commit suicide when he had broken a window. The door was smashed in by the and accused was caught as he was attempting to clamber out of the window of tho moving train
Accused was convicted and fined £1 on both counts, and was ordered to make restitution.
