CHARGE OF SLANDER

IRON GUARD LEADER TERM OF IMPRISONMENT BUCHAREST, April 19 The leader of the Iron Guard, M. Cornelius Codreanu, was tried on a charge of slander contained in a letter to Dr. N. Jorga when the latter was a member of the Cabinet. M. Codreanu's defence was that his letter was not an insult to Dr. Jorga as a member of the Cabinet, but in his capacity as a journalist, regarding his articles attacking the Iron Guard in a newspaper he owned. M. Codreanu was sentenced to six months' imprisonment, and was fined £3. He will be charged later with subversive activities.
