MATERNITY HOSPITAL
NEEDS OF NORTH SHORE
The question whether the Takapuna Borough Council should request the Auckland Hospital Board to establish a maternity hospital on tho North Shore was discussed at a meeting of the council last night. The Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, said the time was opportune for making tho move. The Mayor added that there was the chance of obtaining a maternity hospital with an annexe for treating urgent general cases, although there was no hope of obtaining a complete hospital at the present time. He moved that the council should make tho request. Mr. W. M. White said that Mr. J. E. Waddell, North Shore representative on the Hospital Board, had informed him that the chairman of tho board had told the Mayors of Devouport and Takapuna that a maternity hospital would bo established in tho next 12 months. Mr. White moved an amendment that the council should take no further steps in the matter. Tho amendment was carried. Mr. Guiniven said he would be a candidate for the North Shore representation on the Hospital Board.
