WOMEN'S INSTITUTES

WAIKATO FEDERATION REVIEW OF YEAR'S WORK FOUR NEW AFFILIATIONS [krom our own i'orrkspondknt] HAMILTON, Tuesday "Four new institutes, making a total of 45, are now affiliated with the Waikato Federation of Women's Institutes," said Mrs. J. Ward Chapman, of Hamilton, president of the federation, in her report to the annual council meeting held in Hamilton to-day. .Mrs. Chapman said that of the four new bodies, one, Ohautira, consisted of Maoris. The members of the federation were very pleased to welcome their Maori sisters. The membership of the federation now stood at 1727. ( During the year she had visited 44 institutes, and had attended numerous other meetings, continued. Mrs. Chapman. The annual drama festival in which tlje institutes took part was a splendid success. Raglan secured first place. There were 10 entries from institutes at the Waikato Winter Show, and £3B was received at two stalls conducted by members. The sum of £fl2 was collected and devoted to the installation of wireless pillow phones at the beds of patients in the Waikato Hospital. The delegates were welcomed by the Mayor, Mr. J. R. Fow, while Mrs. F. J. Ryburn, provincial president of the Women's Division of the Farmers' Union, and Miss J. Cro/.ier, secretary of the King Country Federation of Women's Institutes, were presented with bouquets by Airs. Chapman. The statement of accounts showed a credit balance of £'l2. Reports regarding the activities of various institutes were received. Airs. Simpson, of the Pukemiro institute, was presented with a vase as the winner of the secretary's competition. The election of officers resulted: — President, Mrs. J. Waril Chapman; committee, Mesdames F. N. Bernard (Haglau), Tanfield (Ngaruawahia), Webber (Te Awamutu), I'. Dillon (Rolo-o-rangi), Moore (Te Uku), AV. Trounson (Matangi), Claude Storey (WaiterinuO, Higgins (IVrankton), A. .J. Smith (Taupiri).
