NEW SPECIMEN OF SHARK

An unusual specimen of stark has been sent to the Canterbury Museum by a Kaikonra fisherman. With the assistance of Professor E. Fercival, the curator, Mr. R. A. Falla, has identified it as a'species of spiny-scaled shark, previously recorded only from 150 to 300 fathoms off the south coast of Australia. Its scientific name is Acantbidium quadrinspmosum. It has not previously been described from .New Zealand waters.
