BERLIN CROWDS
LEADER ACCLAIMED SCENE AT CHANCELLERY VOTING IN THE SNOW | BRASS BANDS ENLIVEN DAY By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright BERLIN, April 10 The Reichstag election is being held in conjunction with the plebiscite. The majority of the members of the Cabinet assembled at the Chancellery this evening to listen to the broadcast results of the polling. Vast crowds outside demanded to see Herr Hitler. When he came out on to the balcony, they surged forward and swept away the police striving to restrain them. Herr Hitler smilingly saluted and disappeared. The crowd vociferously appealed to him to return. Brass hands this morning woke the populace to vote and, later, people in queues shivered in the cold wind and snow showers. Polling was generally somnolent in the afternoon. Although arrangements were made for secrecy in curtained booths at the polling stations, many were disregarded. However, it was usually possible to vote in the negative without danger of discovery. Newspapers acclaim as a "plebiscite baby" a girl born at a polling station.
HIGH TREASON CHARGE ARCHDUKE OTTO MINISTER ISSUES WARRANT (Received April 11, 7.5 p.m.) LONDON, April 11 The Minister of Justice has disclosed that a warrant on a charge of high treason has been issued against the Archduke Otto, states the Vienna correspondent of the Daily Telegraph. If the Archduke appears on German soil he will be tried for his life.
THE ARCHDUKE OTTO
It is believed that the reason for the step is the Archduke's appeal to the Powers begging them to extend their protection to Austria.
A claimant to the Throne of Austria, Archduke Otto, who is 26 years old, is a son of the late Emperor Karl, and was the focal point of the campaign to. restore the monarchy in Austria. Hopes of such a restoration, however, were dashed when the German troops crossed the border. \
The Archduke and his mother have been living as exiles in Belgium. His mother is said to be the driving force behind all schemes for restoration to the Throne. The Archduke speaks German, French, Italian, Spanish, English and Hungarian quite fluently.
It was claimed for the Austrian Legitimists, under the leadership of Baron Wieser, that they had a membership of 1,200,000, all pledged to the restoration of the Throne.
