FORGERY OF CHEQUE
FARM HAND'S ADMISSION COMMITTED FOR SENTENCE [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON. Monday A plea of guilty was entered by George Finlay Hutton, aged 19, a farm hand, before Mr. S. L. Paterson, S.M., in the Hamilton Police Court to-day, to a charge of forging the name of J. Carson to a cheque for £5 10s and attempting to utter it. Evidence was given that accused was employed by Mr. Carson on a farm at Rototuna, and that during his employer's absence he took a chequeform and signed his employer's name to it. He attempted to cash the cheque at a bank, but the strangeness of the signature was detected. The accused was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence.
