OVER 20 YEARS' SERVICE

AUCKLAND HARBOUR BOARD MR. M. H. WYNYARD RETIRES After over 20 years' service on th.e Auckland Harbour Board, during which he was chairman, ' Mr. M. H. Wynyard has announced that he will not seek re-election next month. First elected in 1915, Mr. Wynvard has been on the board ever since, with the exception of two years between 1933 and 1935.

Mr. Wynyard announced his decision at a meeting of the One Tree Hill Borough Council and various supporters last night. On liis nomination, the meeting selected Mr. E. V. Sutherland, judge of the Auckland Racing Club, as its nominee at the forthcoming election. Mr. Wynyard represents the Newmarket, One Tree Hill and Onehunga districts on the board. Mr. Wynyard has devoted much of his time to public affairs. He was appointed chairman of tl}e Harbour Board in 1929 in succession to Mi'. H. R. Mackenzie. After 18 years' service, he did not contest the election in 1933, when Mr. S. Vella was appointed to fill the vacancy. He again stood, however, in 1935, when lie defeated Mr. Vella by a substantial majority. Appointed judge of the Auckland Racing Club last year, Mr. Sutherland is well known for his association with sport. He has held similar positions with a number of racing and trotting clubs. In 1936 he was deputy-chairman of the Auckland Rugby Union.
