SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORTS LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP OPENS With both summer and winter sports in progress, the public will be well catered for by a wide variety of attractions in Auckland this week-end. The cricket season will be concluded to-day with a senior grade game between Parnell and Pcnsonby, which \yas commenced at Eden Park last Saturday. Lower grade finals also will be continued. The city and suburban senior championships will be carried a further stage at the Domain. Always a popular gathering is the annual secondary school athletic championships, which will be decided at the Remuera hockey ground tq-day. lhe enthusiasm of the runners and the spirit of friendly school rivalry should add great interest to the gathering. Further practices will he held by the majority of Rugby clubs on various suburban grounds. After an interesting series of trial matches last week, players should be in good form for the opening of the Auckland Rugby's League senior championship, which will be commenced at Carlaw Park this afternoon. The main match is between Mount Albert and Ponsonby, while a curtain-raiser will be played by North Shore and Marist Old Boys, Added interest will be given to the early game by the first appearance of the Australian five-eighths J. 11. Banham. Two charity day matches will bo held at Blandford Park, where the main attraction will be the meeting of the Association football clubs Mount Albert Old Boys and Hamilton Wanderers. , , The Victoria Cruising Club will hold a series of harbour races this afternoon, and good entries have been received. The official closing ceremonies of the Auckland and St. George's Rowing Clubs will be held this afternoon. The usual golf and bowling competitions will be held by the various clubs.
