INSTITUTE AFFAIRS

Otaua. —Mrs West presided at the last meeting, the receiving liofetoss boinsx Mrs. Shuker. Tiio competition for a tipra.v of wood fibre flowers was won by Mrs. Smith and the competition for juniors was won by Miss Goodwright. Gifts were presented to Mrs. and Miss Goodwright, both of whom will shortly leave for England. A display of flowers was arranged by tho gardening circle. Mrs. Dennis Neil was the judge and awarded points to Mrs. Sherrard, Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Goodwright. The following committee was elected:—President, Mrs, Hyland; committee, Mrs Gurney, Mrs. Grimmond, Mrs. W. Johnson, Mrs. G. Johnson, Mrs. W. 13. Shuker, Mrs. J. Moseloy, Mrs. McPartland, Miss N. Eraser, Miss D Dickey and Miss A. Johnson. Manawaru. —Mrs. Wo ugh was reelected president at the last meeting of this institute. Competition result's were as fpllows:—Potato-grcwing: Mrs. W. Hughes. Points prize for year, needlework: Miss Trebilco, ]; Mrs. R. Koch, 2. Cooking: Mrs. S. Barron, 1; Mrs. R. Koch, 2. Huntly.—This institute held its annual dance and euchre evening recently, the card prizes being won by Mrs. Massnoski, Mrs. McGaughran, Mr. M. Attwood and Mr. A. C. Shead. Buckland's Beach.—The annual meeting was held recently, when the president, Miss Foster, the secretary, Mrs. Morrison and tho treasurer, Mrs. Wells, were re-elected. A competition for autumn flowers was won by Mrs. Farquhar and Mrs. Baster Raglan.—A biscuit recipe competition was held and the recipes afterward sold. A garden party in honour of visiting institute members was also held.
