PRESENTATIONS
A presentation was made at the Health Department offices this week to Mr. B. A. Franklin, who recently retired from the position of senior inspector of the department after 31 years' service. In the absence of Dr. T. J. Hughes, the presentation was made' on behalf of the staff by Dr. It. H- Makgill. Mrs. Franklin was presented with a piece of crystal. Presentations in recognition of his services to snort and the community life of the Pukekohe district were made to the Rev. *H. H. Jeffreys at a farewell dinner and social at Pukekohe before his departure for Birkenhead. Mr. Jeffreys has been Methodist minister at Pukekohe for three years. Mr.- C. Jeniison, president of the South Auckland Rugby Union, presented Mr. Jeffreys with two fireside chairs and a razor. Reference was also made to his services to swimming. The Mayor, Mr. C. K. Lawrie, spoke in eulogistic terms of ,Mr. Jeffreys' work in found* ing the Pukekohe Men's Christian Brotherhood and acting,- as president of that organisation^-"^ A presentation'* was made to Professor Algie by the staff of Auckland University College at a farewell tea held in the college cafeteria yesterday afternoon. The regret of his colleagues at Professor Algie's resignation and their good wishes for his future were >■ expressed by Professor H. Belshaw, acting-chairman of the Professorial Board. Two gifts, a wrist watch and a crystal" water set, were handed over by Professor Maxwell ,Walker, Professor Algie's oldest associate on the Btaff.
