ENTHUSIASTIC MEETING WELL-ATTENDED GATHERING An atmosphere of enthusiasm marked the third of a series of interdenominational Christian Witness meetings, which was held at the Town Hall last night. The attendance was the largest since the meetings were inaugurated, it being estimated that the gathering of 3000 people at the previous meeting was- slightly exceeded. Young people formed a large part of the audience. " -
I An appeal to those interested to form a choir was responded to, and about 70 people were of great assistance in leading the singing. A solo was given by Mr. R. Bradley, while the hymns were accompanied 011 the grand organ by Mr. 11. Wilson. The Rev. A. Shelhamer, of America, led the prayers. The speaker was Mr, It. A. Laidlaw. He asked the audience how they measured up to the true Christian standard. He made an appeal to spread Christian ideals, and stated that about 90 per cent of those present had failed, as they must admit that since' the beginning of this year they had not brought one soul to Christ. "Too many Christians approach God with grasping hands, with the inters tion of getting as much as possible,"! said Mr. Laicllaw; "We are getting* away from Christ, and 110 one knows how soon we will have to face up to it. It is then that-He will cease to intcrveue on behalf of Christian men and women."
An announcement was made by Mr. K. Rimmer, of the Wayside Mission, which was responsible for the organisation of the meeting, that there would be 110 gathering next week. However, a further meeting would be held on April 21. -
