BATHING FACILITIES

PROVISION IN AUCKLAND OLYMPIC POOL DESIRABLE Dissatisfaction with the City Council's apathy toward the provision of improved bathing facilities in Auckland and with its non-constructive reply to the requests mado recently by a deputation representing the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was expressed in a resolution passed yesterday at a meeting of the centre's management committee. The deputation asked that the council construct an Olympic pool, as it was the centre's intention to conduct a world swimming carnival in Auckland during the centenary celebrations ill 1940; that members of the centre be co-opted by the Parks Committee, rind that, during the present alterations to the lepid Baths, the oppoitunity be taken to enlarge the pool; that a reduction be made in the hiring fees for tho use of the baths. A letter from the town clerk stated that the? City Council had decided that the question" of an Olympic pool should be deferred for consideration by the incoming council, that uo action bo taken in connection with the second request, and that it was not in a position to make any reduction in the tees charged for the baths. The council pointed out that the centre had agreed to nav the increased charges on condition' tliat the council provided additional seating accommodation. This the council had done, and it did not feel n reduction would be justified. The management committee referred the question of facilities to a special committee comprising the chairman, \\r T C Hobbs-,lone?, and Messrs. R. Moore and A. J. Whyte, for investigation.
