SEAMEN'S CONDITIONS
PROMOTION OF WELFARE ACTION BY BRITAIN ' . (Received March 30, 6.5 p.m.) Bri'ish Wireless RUGBY, March 29 The Minister of Labour, Mr. Ernest Brown, told a deputation from the general committee of the Trades Union Congress to-day that the Government intended to accept a recommendation concerning the promotion of seamen's welfare in ports adopted by the International Labour Conference at Geneva in 1936. Mr. Brown said a Government department would consider suggestions made by the deputation for carrying the recommendation into effect. The provisions of the reoommenda-. tion deal with social conditions, such as the supervision of hotels and cafes, enabling seamen to be ill closer touch with Consuls in foreign ports, and the setting up of official bodies in ports to watch conditions.
