MAINLY FAIR TO FINE MODERATE TEMPERATURES The weather report, and forecast for New Zealand issued by the Government meteorologist last evening were as fol-" lows: —Still another of a series of westerly depressions is advancing across the south Tasrnan. A rather shallow disturbance of tropical origin is located near the Kerniadec Islands, The cyclone on the Queensland coast appears to be moving south-eastwards, but is losing energy. The - forecast is for light to moderate south-easterly winds in the far north, backing later to east and north-east, elsewhere west to north prevailing and gradually freshening about and south of Cook. Strait. Seas rather rough to rough, in the far south, elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising in Cook •Strait. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate easterly _ winds and slight to moderate seas in tha northern portion,-'moderate to strong north-westerlies and moderate to rather rough seas in the south portion. The weather for the most' part is likely to be fair to fine with moderate to warm temperatures, hut occasional showers are probable in Vestland and the far south.

SPECIAL AUCKLAND FORECAST FAIR TO FINE AND WARM The Government meteorologist issued to the Herald last evening the following special forecast for the Auckland Province: —Light to moderate southerly to south-easterly winds later backing gradually to the east and north-east. The weather is likely to be fair to fine and warm. Seas moderate on the east coast, .slight on the west coast.

The barometer fell slightly to 29.84 in. at 5 p.m. ■> Dunedin. —A strong; northerly wind prevailed in the morning, with gradually increasing haze and cloud, until the sky %vas fairly heavily overcast in the mid-afternoon. maximum temperature was 67 degrees and the barometer fell to 29.82 in. at midday, after which it commenced to rise fairly rapidly.
