FLYING-BOAT CRASH
NEW ZEALANDER MISSING ACCIDENT NEAR BREST [BY TKLKGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION J CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday The Air Ministry has advised Mr. H. J. Hobbs, of Peterborough Street, Ohristehurch, that his son, FlightLieutenant R. H. Hobbs, is missing and is presumed to have lost his life when the Royal Air Force flying-boat crashed into the sea during manoeuvres off Brest. The accident to the flving-boat was mentioned in a cable message from London published in New Zealand newspapers this morning. Alight-Lieutenant Hobbs is the only child of Mr. Hobbs, and was born in Ohristehurch 28 years ago. He v/as educated at Christ's College, and on leaving school was employed by various Ohristehurch firms before leaving in December. 19M0. to take up a commission in the Royal .Air Force. He was stationed in England from'then until the present time. Flight-Lieutenant Hobbs was married in 1936.
