PERMISSION REFUSED

LOUDSPEAKER IN STREET WHANGAREI DISCUSSION [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Tuesday The question of the use of loudspeakers in the streets of the borough was discussed at a meeting of the Whangarci Borough Council last night, when an application was received from an organisation for permission to instnl a loud-speaker for one day in a building at the busiest intersection in the town. The majority of th? members were against granting the request, which was the first that the council had received. Other members, considered that, provided no nuisance was caused, no objection should be raised. Other organisations had used loud-speakers in the streets without the courtesy of asking the council, it was stated, and the council's power in the matter was not clear, as the apparatus would be in a building. Permission was refused.
