WAITEMATA COUNTY ROADS
Sir, —The official comments on my letter re the above are ludicrous, particularly the tail end "that Ribblesd.ale Road is unknown to the council." In other words, they admit that not only have they neglected this road, but that they have actually lost it. Not bad, even for the Waitemata County Council, seeing that they have been charging and collecting rates from me alone for land abutting on to Ribblesdalo Road for 24 years, and other ratepayers for nearly as long—and in one case 28 years. Moreover, I have communications from them covering 21 years in which they themselves refer to this road by its official name —and the present riding member himself promised to repair the road and sent down culvert pipes for the purpose. Instead of the job being completed the road is still left derelict. Also with regard to Tiromoano Road, there is not any exaggeration on my part. Rather did I understate the case. The scoria is still unbonded after being down for about 18 months, nor are only three ratepayers concerned. Small mercies are all we can expect from this council and it is something to be grateful for to know that at last they are going to " inspect " View Road, etc. J. H. Hayes.
