HOSPITAL SECRETARY
DELAY IN APPOINTMENT MINISTER'S REPORT AWAITED Owing to delay in the receipt of a report from the Minister of Health, the Hon. P. Fraser, on the IG3 applicants, a meeting of the Auckland Hospital Board which was to have heen held last night to appoint a secretary was adjourned. The position was rendered vacant through the retirement of the former secretary. Mr. H. A. Sommervillc, last month.„ The chairman of the board, the Rev. W. C. Wood, said yesterday that, in accordance with the regulations, the full list of applications had been forwarded to the Minister and they were now awaiting any recommendations he might forward. However, it was possible that in a lay appointment he might have no comment to make but, until advice was received from him, there was little purpose in calling the board together to make a final decision. He added that the applications had been carefully considered by a special committee and the number had been reduced to eight, comprising both Australians and New Zealanders.
A similar position applies with respect to the newly-constituted' position of radiologist. The committee which reviewed the applications is ready to report to the board, but consideration is being delayed until the Minister'" port is received.
