AUCKLAND RESIDENT ft APPEAL MADE BY CHURCH PRESBYTERIAN CAMPAIGN CENTENARY THANKSGIVING An announcement that a contribution of £3OOO in instalments of £IOOO a year for three years had been mado bv an Auckland resident to the Presbyterian centenary thanksgiving fund was made by Mr. S. J. Harbutt at a large meeting in St. James' Church, Pukekohe, yesterday. Tho meeting was under the auspices of the South Auckland Presbytery and was called to discuss tho campaign to raise £300,000 as a fund to commemorate tho centenary of tho Presbyterian Church in New Zealand in 1940. Tho moderator of the South Auckland Presbytery, tho Rev. G. F. McKenzie, presided and a welcome to the visitors from Auckland was extended by tho Very Rev. T. 11. Rosovearo. Tho speakers were Mr. Harbutt, Mr. J. Henry Lang, who is to direct tho appeal, and Mr. H. B. Burnett. Tho objects of tho campaign were outlined ou tho same lines as tho addresses at the inaugural meeting in Auckland on Monday night. It was also stated that committees would be formed in 21 presbytery districts and tho speakers expressed confidence in the ability of the committees to attain tho objectivo. The receipt of a donation of £3OOO so early in the campaign augured well.
The meeting was a most enthusiastic one and it was decided to give tho campaign unanimous support. It was also decided to form a local committee.
