Week-End Trial

MOTOR-CYCLISTS ENTER VELOCETTE CUP CONTEST Entries received for the Veloeettc Cup Trial, which will bo held by the Auckland Motor-Cycle Club this week-end, commencing from the ulubroonis at two o'clock this afternoon, totalled 18 at the middle of the week, and the number was expected to be greater beforo the event began. All riders must assemble at 1.30 o'clock. Starters will leave at minute intervals and follow a course that will take them through Papakura, Pukekohe, Tuakau, Glen Murray, Glen Massey and Ngaruawahia to finish at Hamilton for tha day. A group run will bo made to Morrinsville, where arrangements have been made for accommodation. The course will be picked up again to-mor-row morning at Hamilton, and will lead through Whatawhata, Waingaro, Glen Afton, Huntly, Te Hoe, Taniwha and Waerenga, to the Hauraki Plains. Pokeno will be the next township, and from there competitors will ride over the Razorback to Auckland. Officials who travelled over the course last week-end state that tho roads are in first-class condition. All intersections are well signposted. First priza will bo tho Velocctte Trial Cup and £3, and there will be u cup for the novice who performs best. A smoke concert will be held on April 5, to assist riders who are going to Christchurch at Easter to take part in the New Zealand Grand Prix. Novel entertainments have been arranged, A good day's sport is expected at Muriwai Beach to-morrow week, when the annual cup day will bo held. In addition to tho usual handicaps for 350 c.c., 500 c.c, and touring machines, there will bo races for tho McLaren Cup for touring machines, the Skeates Cup for 500 c.c. machines, and if sufficient entries are received, an event for tho Artillery Cup for side-car outfits. Tho first race will ritart at 10 a.m. Halfmile straights will be used. The meeting will conclude with a race for stock cars. A club picnic has been arranged for April 10, at Mangere Speedway. There will be a programme of race and sports events.
