VERSATILE SPORTSMAN
MR. W. T. WYNYARD'S CAREER

One of tlio few surviving members of tlio first Now Zealand Rugby team to tour overseas, the native team of 1888, Mr. Willimn Thomas Wynyard, died on Tuesday. Mr. Wynyard was a most versatile sportsman, being not only a representative footballer, but also a representative cricketer and athlete, and a lino goilfer and billiards playor. Mr. Wynyard first (gained distinction in various branches <Df sport in Auckland. He gained his football experience) with the Grafton Club, and as an Auckland representative ho gained a place in the Rugby team of TBBB. After that tour ho settled in Wellington, where he also took a conspicuous part in sport. Ho became a member of the Poncke Club and represented Wellington in 1893 and 1894, a'tnd was a member of tlio New Zealand team which visited Australia in 1893. Ho also gained representative honours for Wellington at'cricket and athletics, and thus had the distinction of having represented both Auckland and Wellington in three branches of sport. A member of tlio Midland Cricket Club. Air. Wynyard gained representative. honours. After retiring;from cricket ho took up golf and became l a prominent member of the Miramnr Club. On the athletic, field his best distances were the 220 yds. and 440 yds. and- tlio 120 yds. hurdles. Mr. Wynyard is survived by his wife.
