PENNANT BOWLING
MNAL DECIDED CARLTON TEAM'S SUCCESS MARGIN OF ONE GAME The final of the Auckland Bowling Centre's,, annual inter-club pennant competition was decided on -the Mount Eden Club's green on Saturday, when the respective winners of sections A and B, Carlton and Waiuku, met in a six rinks' conte.jt. Victory went to the Carlton club, which won three and ahalf games to "the opposition's two and a-half. This success marked the fifth occasion on which Carlton has won the pennant, the former occasions being in 1922, 1923, 1928 and 1935.
The Mount Eden green was in splendid order for the contest being, if anything, a little too fast for tha majority of the players. This feature, together with the ideal weather, made for perfect playing conditions. Although Waiuku put up a good resistance the players did not display the same ability as that when playing home and away matches in the. section contests. Carlton's three victories were by good margins—lo. 11 and 12 points. Its two losses were by small margins. one point and five points. Two of /the most interesting games were those between Dr. Whiteside, the Waiuku star skip, &nd E. J. Hill, late of Wellington, and the new champion of Waiuku. W. E. Westlake, and the veteran. Carlton player, G. Cutler. The first match ended in a draw and the other in a win for Waiuku by a single point. Cutlqr played a'fine game against the Waiuku champion, some of his saves being most spectadular. Carlton had a 27 points margin in the aggregate points of 127 to 100.
On the conclusion of play Mr. W. J. Truscott, president of the centre, presented the large pennant flag to the president of the winning club. Mi. H. Q, Clarke. Mr. Truscott commented or. the satisfactory conclusion of a competition which embraced so many clubs and players. He congratulated the winning club on its success, especially in view of the fact that the heavy quota of 30 teams had to be carriod throughout the five rounds of section play. Mr. H. C. Clarke and the president of the Waiuku club, Mr. H. B. Arnuiage. responded on behalf of their respective clubs. Following were the results, Carlton names beins; mentioned first:—Proud, Wicksteed, G.
