REQUEST FOR POWER

SETTLERS AT GALATEA BOARD DISCUSSES COST [bt telegraph—otto correspondent]) OPOTIKI, Wednesday A letter from the Galatea Settlers' Association was received at a meeting of the Bay of Plenty Power Board yesterday asking if the district could, be supplied with power. The engineer-manager, Mr. J., D. Dicker, said the original estimate for putting the power into the settlement was £25,000. It was considered at the time that it would not be a pa.Y&ble proposition. The board could not jjet any assistance from the department. There were only 27 settlers on the estate now, so it would be seen that it would not be a payable proposition. Mr. Maxwell said the guarantee required would be out of all reason, as the cost to put in the power would be about £IOOO a head. The board decided to secure particulars of the future development of the district. ' -'
