GOLDEN WEDDING

PAPATOETOE RESIDENTS The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Nesbitt, of Papatoetoe, was celebrated yesterday. The niarriago, which took place on March 7, 1888, was celebrated at the homo of Mrs. Ncsbitt's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Rcid, of Ponsonby, the officiating minister being the Rev. C. Ward. After a voyage of ]6 weeks Mrs. Ncsbitt, who was then Miss Reid, arrived in New Zealand in the ship Ben Nevis in 1880. Mr. Nesbitt was born in Carlton Gore Road, Newmarket. He took an active part in cricket and football and was for many years a non-coin-miHsioned officer in the Ponsonby Naval Artillery tinder the command of the late Captain Commander Miller. Ho also takes an active part in politics, general and local, and has held the position of secretary of the Papatoetoe Ratepayers' Welfare League for 10 years. Mr. and Mrs. Nesbitt were for many years members of the Alexander Street Primitive Methodist school and choir, and resided for 25 years in Mount Albert. Tiio celebration of their golden wedding was of a quiet nature. The cake was made and presented by their godchild. Mrs. J. Barstanti, of Palmerston North, who arrived in Auckland accompanied by .'her mother, Mrs. G. E. Spinley, a lilo-time friend.
