LIQUOR AFTER HOURS
OFFENCES AT HOWICK LICENSEE AND GUESTS FINEC Charges of selling liquor during pre hibited hours were preferred agains Donald Thomas Mcintosh (Mr. Mc Veagh), the licensee of the Howie Hotel, before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M in the Otahuhu Police Court ye; terday. Counsel for defendant entero a plea of guilty on the charge of sel ing liquor and the other two char£< were withdrawn. Sergeant Doel said a constable visite the hotel at 4./30 p.m. 011 Sunday, D cember 26, and found seven men drini ing in an upstairs room. The licorisi admitted he had sold them liquor. Tt police had not had trouble with, it; hotel, which the licensee had eondueite in a decent fashion. Counsel said ds fendant had been 15 years in the trad; and a licensee for six v6ars. A fine of £4 and costs, 10s, wa entered. Five of the men found on the premises, Charles Barber, Michael O'Connor, Jack' and Maurice Moeller ;thd James Carruthers Black, were convicted and fined £1 and 10s costs on charges of being found unlawfully 011 the premises. On an additional charge of giving a false name and address. Black was convicted and fined £2 and 10s costs.
