STOWAWAY CHARGED
ARRIVAL ON MARIPOSA COULD NOT FIND WORK A Now Zealander, Stephen Jonson, aged 33, arrested on the arrival of the Mariposa from Sydney yesterday morning, later appeared before Mr. C. 11. Orr Walker, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court on a charge of stowing away on board the vessel at Sydney on March 4. He admitted the offence. Sub-Inspector Fox said that Jonson was discovered six hours after tho Mariposa left Sydney. Jonson told tho police that he had left for Australia in April of last year. Being unable to secure employment in Australia, he decided to stow away on the Mariposa. "In view of Jonson's good conduct on board the vessel, officers from the Mariposa have requested that he be not punished," said Mr. Fox, who added that there was little hope of the fare of £lO being paid. Jonson was remanded until next Monday for sentence, in order that inquiries be made by the police.
