FRACTURE OF THE SPINE

WORKER SERIOUSLY HURT PORT WHANGAREI ACCIDENT [by telegraph—own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday While working at Port Whangarei this afternoon on the Gabriella unloading hardwood power poles from Australia to the order of the North Auckland' Power Board, serious injuries was suffered by one of the men engaged. The injured man is: Mr. Albert Arthur Higgins, aged 29, married, of Morningside Road, Whangarei. Mr. Higgins was attended by Dr. H. P. Buckley, of Whangarei, and then taken to the Whangarei Hospital by the St. John ambulance. He was struck in the back by a pole when it was being slung from the boat to the wharf. He received a fracture of the lower spine and of the pelvis and is suffering, severely from shock. His condition is regarded as serious.
