GRAIN AND PRODUCE
MOST LINES QUIET ONIONS SLIGHTLY HIGHER POTATOES IN GOOD SUPPLY Onions continue firm in the grain and produce market, harvesting still being hampered by the unfavourable weather. With the price through jitore now quoted at lis a bag, onions are now a shilling dearer than last week. Rangitikei potatoes arc in good supply, with values lower than last week. It is expected that local supplies will be available in about a fortnight, and no difficulty is anticipated in meeting the local demand until the South Island supplies are available next month. Fowl wheat is in good supply., but business in the maize market remains very quiet. There has again been a good demand for Australian barley during the week, with prices a little easier. The market for pollard is firm, with values slightly lower than last week. Both oats and chaff have met with a very limited inquiry and the markets are quiet. POTATOES The market is well supplied with Rangi- • tikei potatoes and the price is easier. Values this week are quoted at from £S 10s to £0 a ton through stoic, compared with last deck's rate of 10 10s a ton. Although it is expected that the Pukekoho crops will have benefited as a result of recent rain local supplies are not yet available, but it is expected that they should come to hand in about 14 days. This should assure Awkland of supplies unti'. the South Island crops come forward in April. ONIONS With unfavourable weather continuing to hamper the harvesting of crops the market for onions remain.- firm Values show a slightly higher tendeno than last week and through store prices are quoted at lis a bag. Last week values rose sharply to almost double the previous week's level, the through store price being about It's a bag. FOWL WHEAT All merchants are holding (rood (-locks of Australian wheat and, with a further shipment due next week, there has been no alteration in late rales Through store values remain practically unchanged at last week's levels ef Ts Id to Ts ,3d a bushel. MAIZE There was again very little change in the market for maize during the week, and business is quiet. Merchants report a very limited inquiry and prices are practically unchanged. Values are quoted at Gs Td to Os lOd a bushel through store. BARLEY A good inquiry has been received for Australian barley during the week, but the market is a shade weaker. The value through store for clipped is os 4d a bushel, compared with last week's price of Os Gd.-Tn-clipped is '-id n bushel cheaper at 4s lid through store. Barley meal also is a shade easier, and is now quoted at £ll a ton. BRAN AND POLLARD Australian pollard remains firm and is quoted at from £lO to £lO 5s a ton through store, compared v» ith last week's level of £1!) 10s. The value fixed by. the Wheat Committee also is unchanged at £7 a ton. Ample supplies of bran are held by local merchants and the price through store _remains unchanged at last week's rate, £7 a ton. The price fixed by the Wheat Cominitto is £0 a ton. OATS AND CHAFF The market for oats is quiet, with only a limited inquiry. The value -is a shade lower, with merchants quoting 4s Td a bushel through store, compared with 4s Sd and 4s 9d last week. Chaff also is meeting with only a limited inquirv and the through store rale remains unaltered at £lO 10s a ton.
