ROYAL AKARANA CLUB ANNUAL REGATTA DECIDED SUCCESS OF RAINBOW The Royal Aknrnna Yacht Club held its annual regatta on Saturday afternoon under ideal weather conditions. Tho scow Combine, owned by Messrs. Winstone and Company, was flagship and was moored off the clubhouse in Judge's Bay, all races starting and finishing off tho flagship. An "At Home" was held in the clubhouse, where refreshments were provided by the ladies' committee. Good entries were received for the various events and some close finishes were recorded. The wind was very light for the ladies' race, which started at 11 a.m., but a steady breeze from tho north prevailed in the afternoon for the remainder of the events, The annual inter-club 14ft. championship for the Willetts Memorial Cup was keenly contested and resulted in a win for the Y class boat Avenger, owned by Mr. K. F. Clark and representing tho Richmond Cruising Club. Avenger beat Swallow (Messrs. Currey J?ros.), representing the Royal Akarana Yacht Club, by seven seconds. The A class boat Rainbow, owned by Messrs. Cloke nnd Patrick find sailed by Mrs. I<\ Cloke, won the ladies' race and later in tho day accounted for tho Commemoration Cup, with J. INTER-CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The competitors in the inter-ciub 14ft. championship wero Swallow (Royal Akarana Yacht Club), Avenger (Richmond Cruising Club), Mania (Ponsonby Cruising Club), Ayesha (Devonport Yacht Club), Muimai (Wakatere Boating Club), Marere (Point Chevalier Sailing Club), L?na (Tamaki Yacht Club), Invader (Takapuna Boating Club). Tempest also started, but according to the clu!) was not. an official competitor. On the fall of the last flag the boats crossed the line in the following order:—Swallow, Tempest, Muimai, Ayeslia, Lena, Avenger, Marere, Mania, Invader. It was a beat to tho Sandspit, a lead to the Bastion and a run back to the Resolution buoy. On completion of the first round Tempest was Ills ahead of Avenger, which led Swallow by 31s. Lena was lm Ids astern of Swallow and at further intervals followed Invader, Ayesha and Muimai. Avenger and Swallow gradually caught and passed Tempest and toward the finish Swallow challenged Avenger, which crossed the line 7s ahead of her rim! Rainbow was first round the Sandspit beacon, but on the lead to tho Bastion the wind dropped and Ngahau and Mawhiti passed Itainbow. Later, Mawhiti took the load till tho breeze freshened, when Rainbow again drew ahead and was first home. Anita crossed the line at gunfire and close on her stern came Speedwell, Corsair, Maybelle, Ngahau, Waimana, Roiasita, Queonie, Valdora and Ma hoc. Revel and Rainbow were a few seconds late. On tho close haul to the Bastion beacon, Anita, Corsair, Ngahau and Roiaata drew away from the ether craft. Rainbow was rapidly overhauling the fleet and beforo the Bastion was reached she took, charge. Raiubow soon opened up a big lead on the beat to the Duder Spit buoy and finished well ahead of her smaller rivals. Queenie occupied second position and Ngahau third. ANNETTE AND TREASURE WIN Classes M, V and {) raced for the He-o-lin Cup and just before the signal to start was Riven several boats crossed the line, causing a certain amount of troublo in their efforts to re-cross. Of the actual start, Manoa was first away and was closely followed by Arlino, Velox, Limerick, Memutu, Shamrock, Mftwhiti, Maramaru and Mascottc. Manoa soon improved her position and on the completion of tho first round was 2m 10s ahead of Mawhiti, which was 60s in front of Surprise. TAKAPUNA CLUB TREVIC SHIELD CONTEST VICTORY FOR SWISH The annual inter-club contest for the Trevic Shield for class Z, 12ft. Gin. boats, way held by the Takapuna Boating Club on Saturday afternoon. MANUKAU CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS DECIDED SUCCESS OF MYSTIC Tho Manukau Cruising' Club's championships were decided oil Saturday in weather conditions which did not tend to reveal the real champions on all points of sailing, ihe light north-north-west breeze gave the boats a lead to the bottom mark, with an easy lay through back to . the top mark, ISO. 2 course being used owing to the falling tide. The 18ft Mystic won bolli the Denison Cup for the open championship and the Fearon Cup for tho 18ft championship, liy a good margin. Mistral took the McGahan Cup for the 16ft and under championship. A sweepstake for non-competitors in the championships, and a motor-boat race for lady members, were also held. Details: — OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP Hanui, Mystic, Maia and Valrosa started in that order in the open championship for the Denison Cup. 3OFT AND UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP Eleven boats faced the starter in the 10ft and under championship for the McGahan Cup, and from a good start Maile showed out first, followed by Aloma, Sea Gnome, Fay, Alerte, Perseus. Mistral, Lois, Opah, Wixie M. and Topsy. All kept well together and there was little between them at the bottom mark. On the homeward leg ngainst the tide, Mistral assumed the lead, but missed the top mark and had to go about, Perßeus rounding first, with Opah next. Topsy retired at this stage. The order was maintained on the lead down harbour, with Mistral making up the lost distance. From the bottom mark to the finishing line. Mistral headed Perseus and the pair were together until crossing the tide. Perseus lost the wind and Mistral drew clear to win by 1m 12s. POINT CHEVALIER# CLUB ANNUAL REGATTA HELD Tho Point Chevalier Sailing Club held its annual regatta yesterday. Sixty four boats started in the various events, but owing: to the fresh north-north-easterly breeze a number of the competitors failed to complete the course. Six boats capsized, two 14-footers, two Z class boats, and two Tauranga sevenfooters. The crews were all rescued. All events started and finished off tho clubhouse, which was well patronised by members and visitors. The Waterside Workers' Hand rendered an enjovable programme of music during the afternoon. The officials controlling the racing wore;— Starter, Mr. (I. Mobberley; judge, Mr. H. E. Buckley; time-keepers, Messrs. O. Johnson and J. White; recorders, Messrs. L. Richards rud W. H. .T. Oliver. HOBART REGATTA NEW ZEALAND SUCCESSES YACHTS MUCH SUPERIOR (Received February 20, 5.3 p.m.) HOBART, Feb. 20 The visiting New Zealand yachtsmen again figured prominently on the Derwent yesterday ir. the 14-footer class at the opening of the. Royal Hobart Centenary Regatta. The vacht Impudence, the first across the line won also on the corrected times, with n handicap of Im lis. Vamp, on the scratch mark, was second across the line, but was placed fourth on the corrected times. Windwan! and Myrtle (Western Australia) were second and third respectively. The New Zealand boats have shown a definite superiority over the Australian 14footers, and have so far scooped the pool. They will start on Monday and Tuesday.
