Mr. A. T. Bothamley, Clerk of Parliament and secretary of the Kew Zealand branch of the Empire Parliamentary Association, arrived by express from Wellington yesterday. He is at Hotel Cargen. y
Mr. H. Tanslev Witt, who is associ. ated with Viscount Nuffield's business interests, arrived from England on Saturday _by the Rangitiki. He is accompanied by Mrs. Witt and proposes to stay in the Dominion for a fortnight. Mr. and 3lrs. Witt are at the Grand Hotel.
Sir Arthur Grant, accompanied by Lady Grant, arrived in Auckland o& Satiirdav by the Rangitiki. Sir Arthur, who is the 11th baronet, entered tho Grenadier Guards in 1931 and resigned in 1936. He saw service in Egypt. He proposes to spend several weeks in tie Dominion and hopes to do some trout fishing. Sir Arthur and Lady Grant are at the Hotel Cargen.
Dr. W. 11. B. Oliver, Director of the Dominion Museum, Wellington, who is going'abroad for study under a Carnegie grant, has now defined his plans. He will leave Auckland for San Francisco by the Mariposa; on March 7. After visiting various American cities he will proceed to England, and at the conclusion of his inquiries in London he will visit Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany. France, Belgium and Holland. He will return to New Zealand in the latter part of the year, via Suez.
Mr. E. 'A. Callauan, _ who ha» been chairman and managing-director of the Vacuum Oil Company Proprietary, Limited, since October, 1934, and is at present on a visit to New York, has indicated his desire to remain in the United States,, where his two. sons have recently entered college. ,3lr. Hugh Hamilton has been appointed chairman of directors, and Mr. J. C. Blair deputy-chairman, and Mr. X. 0. Gamble, who was-for many years resident in Australia, has been appointed managing-director.]
The Rev. David Calder. Dominion secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society, has -been invited by the London committee of the society to visit London on furlough. Mr. Calder, who will leave from Auckland by the Niagara on February 22, plans to visit Canada and to spend some time in New York en Toute to London, where much of his time will be spent in deputation work. He hopes to return to New Zealand about Christmas time. Mr. Calder will be accompanied bv the Rev. G. W. Sheppard. who recently re- • tired from the position of .secretary , of the Bible Society in China,'and who , is now in.the Dominion.
