RACING PROSPECTS

MATAMATA CLUB

,TO-DAY'S PROGRAMME GOOD FIELDS ENGAGED WIN AND PLACE BETTING RONA BAY WELL FANCIED Good fields are carded for the Matamata Racing Club's meeting to-day and there should be sonio good contests. Rain fell at Matamata yesterday and the weather outlook last evening was doubtful. The win and place system oi betting will bo used. Following are details of the fields, with a review of the prospects iu each race by " Archer": —

12.10—HINUERA HANDICAP, Of £'110; 6 fur. st. lb. st. lb. Free Advice . i> 0 Miss Clipper . 8 3 Very Glad . 8 33 Floodlight ..S3 Town Section 8 I) Asset .... 8 3 Full of Scotch 8 <J Contaurus ..83 Gay Papa .- . S 0 Sen Acre ... 8 3 Desert Wings 8 5 Attack .... 8 3 Abbey Lass . 8 4 Tralee Rose , 8 3 Aynho .... 8 3 Red "Hawk ..S3 British Nation 8 3 Sir Joe Joo . S 3 Broadway Bill. S 3 Few of the candidates have any form and there are some unknown quantities. Free Ail vice and Town Section registered minor placings at Thames and the latter is a likely improver. Very Glad shaped creditably on several occasions last season and may go well. Desert "Wings and Abbey Lass have been placed this season, while Aynho and Attack have shown promise. British Nation has speed and other possibilities are Contaurus, Miss Clipper, Tralee Rose, Full of Scotch and Sen Acre. Some who may be in demand are TOWN SECTION, BRITISH NATION, DESERT WINGS. 12.50—TIRAU HURDLES HANDICAP, Of £150; 1 mile 5 fur. st. lb. st. lb. Boughal ... 11 2 Mia Acrea . 9 0 Mungacre . . 30 0 Seven Seas . 0 0 Gascyne ... 0 9 Arack .... o 0 Cadger ...96 Little Captain 0 0 Siwel ... 9 5 Mana .... .9 0 Smilin' Thru 9 (> Dombey ... 9 0 Swift Spear 0 0 Bracket: Smilin' Thru and Little Captain. Boiighal ran below form at Thames, but has a good chance to make amends. Mungacre, who has won at his last two starts, is much improved anil should take a lot of beating. Gascyne was third twice at Thames and Gadger, who has not racedyust lately, is useful when fit. Siwel was second on the concluding day at Thames and is a likely improver. The others have little form, but Smilin' Thru, Swift Spear and Mia Acrea, who has been schooling well, may perform creditably. Popular fancies may be MUNGACRE. SIWEL, MIA ACREA. I.3O—WAHAROA HANDICAP, Of £150; 6 fur. st. lb. st. lb. Tosh .... 9 7 Bachelor King 7 13 Trilliarch . . 8 10 Gay Seton . . 7 8 Marie's Acre 8 0 Jonnny Walls 7 3 Mangukaha, . 7 33 Torch .... 7 0 ■ Although he has a big weight, the consistent Tosh should not bo without prospects. Trilliarch should make a good showing and Marie's Acre is in a class that should suit him. Mangukaha has been working nicely and should perform creditably. Bachelor King is nicely placed and may be all the better for his recent racing. Gay . Seton raced well at Thames and similar form should make him dangerous. Johnny Walls is returning to form and Torch is a possibility with his light weight. Some who may find favour are GAY SETON, BACHELOR KING, JOHNNY WALLS. 9.IS—RAILWAY HACK HANDICAP, Of £320; 6 fur. st. lb. fit. lb. Euntette . . 813 Poker Face . 7 4 Du Maurier . 8 0 Free Advice . 7 4 Forest Aero . 8 1 Highland Clooneen ... 7 32 Queen . 7 2 Bronzette • . 7 12 Phiakuo ... 7 0 Llangollen .78 Galloping Acre 7 0 Hopalong . .7 9 Huntette is capable of a solid performance and Du Maurier should find the class to his liking. Forest Acre should be suited by the long straight and Clooneen was successful at Thames. Bronzette was second to Aero King at the meeting and on that form is entitled to considerable respect. Llangollen won at her last start at Gisborne and is very speedy. Highland Quqen is an improver and other possibilities arc Hopalong, Galloping Acre and Poker Face. The favourites may include BRONZETTE, FOREST ACRE, DU MAURIER,. 3.0 MATAMATA CUP HANDICAP, Of £326; about V/* miles . St. lb. it. lb. Jonathan . . 9 4 Con Fuoco ..72 Mazir .... 8 11 King Musk . 7 0 Gay Hose . . 8 11 Gay Streak . 7 0 ' Scotland ... 811 Grand City . 7 0 Rona Bay ..82 Huskie ... 7 0 Day Wind ~ 7 10 Recent form indicates good chances * for Day Wind and Gay Rose and both should run well. Jonathan shaped creditably at the Takapuna meeting, but the figures are against hirn. Mazir has no recent form, but Scotland is nioely placed and. may improve upon his running at Thames. Rona Bay is a recent winner and is very consistent. She will have the advantage of racing on her home course and the same applies to Jonathan. King Musk may be the best of tho lightweights, although Gay Streak, Hiiskie and Grand City are capable of creditable performances. The best supported may be RONA BAY, DAY WIND, KING MUSK. 3.4S—PUTARURU STAKES, Of £110; weight-for-age; 5 fur. st. lb. lb. Galloping Acre 8 7 Fairy Hill ..84 Orwere ... 8 7 Philcourt ..70 Spearford ..87 Val-lu .... 7 0 High Spear . 8 7 Goldation . . 7 0 Little Idea . 8 4 Yed Prior . . 6 11 Sen Acre . . 8 4 Miss Tidal . . 6 11 Mon Acre ..84 Miss Brierly . 6 11 Town Section 8 4 Solitary 0 11 Two-year-olds usually do well in this race apd horses of that ago are Philcourt, Val-lu, Goldation, Yed Prior, Miss Tidal, Miss Brierly and Solitary. Miss Brierlv has the best form of these, but Ph ileourt is a nice colt and belongs to a good family. Of the older division, likely horses may bo Galloping Acre, Orwere, Sen Acre, Mon Acre and Town Section, who was placed nt Thames. Some who may be well supported are MJSS BRIERLY, PHILCOURT, TOWN SECTION. /'X . . 4.3O—UKOROIRt HACK HANDICAP, Of £200; 0 fur. . y ~ st. lb. St. lb. Huskie w 0 Hopalong . ' 4 . Black Musi; . Kll Cometarium . 7 3 Gay Sister . 8 5 General Ruse 7 2 Dutch Girl S 3 Miss Mestor. 7 0 . ..Mustang ... 711 General Riske 7 0 Bonnie. Song. 73 1 Abbey Lass . 7 0 •IrMalagigi ... 7 8 Socketts ... 7 0 Bacette .... 7 0 Full of Scotch 7 0 Huskie shaped well in the high-weight eveuts at Trentham last month and make a showing if reserved. Black Mu.sk showed signs of returning «> form at Thames and should be dangerous. (Jay Sister and Dutch Girl should perform creditably find Mustang te ay be ,'>ll the' better for his recent racing. Bonnie Song is not without

prospects, but Malagigi' makes n stronger appeal in spite of his failure at his last start. Malagigi stays on well and may bo improved for his recent racing. Cometnrium has been working solidly and should ninko a good showing. The best of the others may lxrltacctto and Full of Scotch. The favourites may bo BLACK MUSK, MALAGIGI DUTCH GIRL. 6.IS—WALTON HANDICAP, Of £175; 7fur. st. lb. st. lb. Jonathan .. 0 -1 Sir Abb t . 7 2 Trilliarch ..88 Little Artist . 7 0 Mangukaha . 7 11 Miss Mestor . 7 0 Gay Scton ..76 Grand City .70 Respectful ..70 Whakapara . 7 0 Rulettc ..73 Prince Rangi 7 0 Many of the candidates have previous engagements and it is probable that there may bo a few defections. Jonathan should not be without prospects if reserved, but is not as brilliant as of yore. Trilliarch, Mangukaha, Gay Seaton and Respectful should run good races if started and recent form suggests a good chance for Rulotte, who is very well. Sir Abb has solid to insist him and Pritico llangi is in winning vein. Little Artist and Grand City may also run well. Tho favourites may include HULETTE, RESPECTFUL. PRINCE RANGI. SCRATCHING POSTED TYBALT WITHDRAWN • Tybalt was scratched for the Matamata Cup at 10..50 a.m. yesterday.
