ASSAULT ON COOK
SEAMEN SENT TO GAOL TROUBLE ON TROJAN STAR "These two men are a most disturbing influence on board, and I would bo glad to get rid of them," said Captain E. P. Fielding, master of tho Trojan Star, when William Frank Dean, aged 24, and John Joseph Dean, aged 29, members of his crew, appeared in tho Police Court yesterday charged with assaulting Robert Drower, a cook on the vessel, on Thursday. Mr. C. R. Orr Walkf>)\ S.M., was on the Bench. "It seems that if those men go back to the ship other members will refuse to sail with them," said Senior Sergeant Cahvcll. He said one of tho accused, who ware brothers, was supposed to have assaulted Drower, and thrown him down somo stops, where the other accused kicked him on tho jaw and ribs. Drower, in evidenco, said ho had been assaulted without provocation, but John Dean said ho had been attacked first, his brother coming to his aid. Sentences of 21 days' imprisonment were imposed, but if another vessel of tho same lino reaches Auckland before tho expiration of tho terms the men are to bo placed on board.
