CYCLISTS' REFUSAL
SIGNING OR AGREEMENT BAR TO PROFESSIONALISM NEW ZEALANDERS ADAMANT (Received February 4, 8.15 p.m.) Sydney, Feb. 4 The New Zealand Empire Games cyclists created a surprise by flatly refuting to sign an agreement, involving a bond of £SO, debarring them from turning professional within two years. Frank Grose is reported to have signed the agreement on the voyage to Australia, but the regaining six members of the team are adamant. They declare that it would have been a different matter had they been informed of tho obligation before they left New Zealand, when 'it might have prevented them from undei'taking the trip.
The spokesman for the team sjvjd: "We have no thought, of turning professional but Ave do not think we should be bound down. Also we resent the fact that the demand comes not from the New Zealand Empire Games Committee but from _ the New Zealand Cyclists' Association. "We do not say we will not ndc on Tuesday night. We are all in tiptop foini but. even if it means that we shall be packed off home, wo are determined not to sign," he added.
