ASSISTANT DIRECTOR
AGRICULTURE DEPARTMENT MR. E. J. FAWCETT'S POST STUDIES AT CAMBRIDGE [IIY TKIjKGHAI'If riIKSS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Thursday The appointment of Mr. E. J. Fawcott, M.A. (Cambridge), to the position of assistant-Director General of Agriculture is announced by the Minister of Agriculture, the Hon. W. Lee Martin. The Minister stated that Mr. Fawcett's practical experience of farming before the war, his Wide range of activities in the department and the Government service, and his academic qualifications equipped him fully for the position.
Mr. Faweett was born' in Nelson in 1892 and went to the war with the Seventh Reinforcement as a secondlieutenant. He was wounded at I'asschendacle. He gained the Military Cross and was discharged with the rank of captain in 19IS. Shortly afterward he was awarded the Kitchener Memorial Scholarship and entered Cambridge University under a special dispensation. On the completion of a year ho was awarded the Expeditionary Force Scholarship and spent three years at Cambridge specialising in agriculture and economics. Ho returned to New Zealand in 1922 and has since been in the service of the Department of Agriculture.
