Mrs. Hirst was walking along Cfiurch Street toward the intersection with Alfred Street at about 10.30 o'clock. She came to a dark part of the' road and was about to pass a man walking in the opposite direction. Without • warning he raised his. fist and her a heavy blow on the forehead. Mrsf Hirst screamed loudly, and her criea were heard by several people living
near by. Evidently afraid of being apprehended her assailant disappeared. Mrs. Hirst, suffering from shock, was assisted into the home of some friends. Apart from a bruised forehead she not severely injured, and later wag able to return to her home. The assault took place in tb<> same locality as the attack on Miss Isobel W. Smith, of Grey Street, who was injured about the face when she was knocked down and robbed of her shopping bag by a man on August 6 of last year. The Onehunga police were notified of the attack on Mrs..Hirst and, assisted by residents, thoroughly 'combed the district for any trace of her assailant. Extensive inquiries were made yesterday, but no arrest had been made last night. « . .
