SUMMER SHOW

HELfiNSVILLE fixture HIGH STANDARD ATTAINED RECORD ENTRIES RECEIVED [from our own correspondent] HELENSVILLE, Sunday . The upward trend in the number of entries for the Helensville Agricultural and Pastoral Association's annual show was continued this year, and Saturday's 39th fixture recorded increases in all sections The hack and hunter classes improved from 314 in 19.36 to over 500 this year, a record for the show. This and perfect weather conditions helped to make up some of the loss on last year's show, held in pouring rain. Fat beasts were very good and the quality of the pedigree cattle was of -a-high standard. Indoors a very fine exhibition of work was made by the ■pupils of the Helensville, District High School. Needlework and cookery classes were better than usual. The judge of the light horse classes, Mr. P. H. Clarkin, had a particularly difficult task in awarding places, with perhaps half of the entries on equal terms in every class, necessitating several extra rounds for the hunters in the better classes. The official opening was performed by the show patron, the Rt. Hon. J. 6. Coates, M.P., after being welcomed by the president, Mr. V. E. Aitkenhead. .Mr. Coates expressed his appreciation of the fine display and of the many young men taking an active interest in the management of the show. Championship awards were as follows: —Hector Aitkenhead Memorial Cup, for draught mare: Clarke and Sons. Hack: N. McDonald's Glencoe. Hunter (local): W. Montgomery. North Auckland hunter: Mrs. C. H. Finlayson's Solomon. Shorthorn bull: J. D. Foster. Jersey bull: J. J. Riguev's Castlereagh Gladman. Cow: Mrs. S. Sanford's Rolavale Pet.
