BAY OF PLENTY SEAT
NATIONAL CANDIDATE MR. W. SULLIVAN CHOSEN [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] GISBORXE, Sunday At a meeting of the Bay of Plenty executive of the National Party held at Gisborne last evening, Mr. William Sullivan, Mayor of Whakatane, was selected as the official National candidate at the coming election. There were five nominees, who were expected to address the meeting in succession. Prior to the official meeting, however, the nominees conferred among themselves and four decided to withdraw, leaving Mr. Sullivan the sole nominee, the other nominees promising their support. Mr. Sullivan's nomination was thereupon officially confirmed by the executive.
Mr. Sullivan has been Mayor of Whakatano for the last 12 years and occupies prpininent positions on other local bodies. He is a building contractor and timber merchant and is 4S years of age.
A meeting of the combined executive of the Labour Representation Committee held at Te Karaka to-day to select a Labour candidate for the Bar of Plenty seat, chose Mr. A. Gordon Hultquist, the sitting member, being the only nomination.
