IMPORTED DOG
BLOODHOUND ARRIVES MANY PRIZE AWARDS TRAINING FOR TRACKING An aristocrat of the canine world, a very dismal looking bloodhound, was an arrival by the Union Steam Ship Company's steamer Otnann. from Melbourne yesterday. Imported for Mrs. V. Donaldson, of Fern Hill, Whangarei, through the agency of Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Company, the bloodhound is believed to be the only male of its breed in New Zealand. In spite of its characteristic —and seemingly permanent —unhappy expression, tho dog arrived in good condition and was railed to his new homo at Whangarei last evening. Bred at the kennels of Messrs. Gillies and Rushbord, in Melbourne, Iron Duke has an imposing pedigree, which classes him among the first families of the canino world in Australia.
Although not yet two years old, the dog has an impressive list of show successes to his credit and at the last Royal Show at Melbourne he was adjudged champion and best of all other breeds. Recognised as a champion by tho Kennel Control Council, of Melbourne, the highest award obtainable in Victoria, Iron Duke is to be trained for tracking by his new owner. Ten first prize certificates and several special awards won at shows in various parts of Victoria during tho past year comprised the major portion of Iron Duke's baggage. Hounds from the kennels where he was bred have been supplied to the Melbourne police.
