THE MARSDEN SEAT NOMINEES ADDRESS ELECTORS [FROM oca OWN correspondent] WHAJiGABEI, Thursday Addresses by the two nominees for the Marsden seat at the next Parliamentary elections, and discussion of plans for an intensive membership drive in all branches and electorates, took place at a meeting of tho Whangarei branch of the National Party held last night. The chairman, Mr, H. W. Crawford, stated that a further meeting would be held on February 8, when representatives would be elected to attend the selection committee meeting to be held at JVaipu on February 10, The candidate to represent tho National Party in the contest for tho Marsden seat would bo finally decided At the latter meeting. As the result of a planned membership drive, it was hoped that 2000 members would be enrolled bv February 'lO. ' Mr, A, J. Murdoch, formerly the "United Party member for tho electorate, and chairman of the Dairy Board, and Mr. P. R. Gardner, a "Whangarei business man, who are offering themselves for selection, addressed the meeting. An undertaking that he would not seek re-election as chairman of the I}a.iry Board next July if favoured by the selection committee was given by Mr; Murdoch. If theh elected to Parliament, Mr, Murdoch added, ho would drop out of the Dairy Board altogether, Mr. Gardner traced his experience in the farming and commercial life irj the district, and said the wide and ■varied knowledge thus gained would enable him to adequately represent the electors in the Marsden constituency.
