MEMORIAL TO AIRMEN
THE HERALD APPEAL MEN ON PUBLIC WORKS CONTRIBUTION TO THE FUND Among contributions received yesterday to the fund opened by the New Zealand Herald for the purpose of establishing a memorial to the late Captain Edwin C. Musick and his six companions, who lost their lives in the Samoan Clipper, was a grant of 20 guineas by the Auckland City Council. Contributions coming to hand provide full evidence of the sympathy felt by the public toward the object of the fund. Eloquent in this respect was a sum of £7 subscribed by the workmen and staff of the Public Works Department at Warkworth. The workmen greatly outnumber the staff, and the major'portion of the amount came from the former. It has not been decided yet what will be the form of the memorial, but a committee comprising the Mayor of Auckland, Sir Ernest Davis, the chairman of the Auckland Harbour Board, the Hon. T. Bloodworth, M.L.C., and the representative in New Zealand and Australia of Pan American Airways, Mr. Harold Gatty, has agreed to consider suggestions. The fund is open at the Herald office during business hours. The following further contributions have been received: —
