COUNTEY, MATCHES WHANGAREI COMPETITIONS LEADING TEAM DEFEATED [fhom our OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Monday Cricket matches under the control of the Whangarei Association were continued on Saturday under good conditions. The leading team Oneralii was defeated by Nomads.
Nomads team made 21 il and 121 for six wickets, declared (Cole 38, W. Wilson 26, Dunn 32). Onerahi scored 192 (McCoy 42, Murdock 27, Hewlett 2(5), and 69 for six wickets. For Nomads, Dunn took three wickets for 13.
Whangarei, 219 and 84. gained a first innings victory over Combined Services, 100 and 50 for six wickets. For Whangarei C Nisbot made 23, and for Services M. Wilson (ftorcd 07 and H. Wilson 9L not out. Bowling for Services, Power took three for 10, Butler three for 1(5, H. Wilson three for 25.
In the senior B competition. Portland, 75, defeated Maungatapere, 70. Old Boys, 107, won from Combined Services B, 101. In the junior section Nomads Colts, 150 (Pliilpott 35, Philpolit, jur., 54), gained an outright win over Old Boys, 46 and 27. Kamo, 118 (Manning 35 not out), defeated Lovatts, 07 (Shaw 30). For Kamo Holt took six wickets for 22.
The Whangarei senior B representatives defeated the Northern Wairoa B team by a narrow margin. Whangarei made 128 (Jenyns 28, Wells 21), and 59 for five wickets, declared (Coote 24). Northern Wairoa scored 59 in their first innings (Batger 10, Wordley 13) and had 119 on the board for nine wickets (Canny 38. Olsen 35) at the call of time.
